T.H. Oleksandr Markushyn

Mayor, City of Irpin, Ukraine

Oleksandr Markushyn was elected mayor of Irpin in 2020. Throughout his term, he has dedicated himself to serving the needs of Irpin’s population. In February 2022, he headed the Territorial Defense of Irpin until the city’s release on March 28, 2022. After the deoccupation of the city, Markushyn, together with the head of the Irpin Investment Council Volodymyr Karpliuk and People's Deputy of Ukraine Serhii Taruta, created the "Irpin Reconstruction Fund".

Before serving as mayor, Markushyn held various positions within local government and the private sector. In August 2018, he was appointed as the first deputy mayor of Irpin. In 2010, he was elected as deputy of the Irpin City Council of the 6th convocation in electoral district No. 5 and was then re-elected in 2015 as deputy of the Irpin City Council of the 7th convocation. Markushyn also served as Director of Palii and as Deputy Director and Head of utility company Irpinvodokanal.

Under his leadership, Irpin was awarded the status of Hero City as a result of the deoccupation of the city. Markushyn was also awarded the Order "For Courage" III degree.

Markushyn received his higher education at the Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture (Faculty of Urban Construction and Economy) and the National University of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine (Faculty of Law).
